Cancer.com features content tailored to each user plus a wealth of resources,
including My Care Activator™, an exclusive digital health coaching tool
HORSHAM, Pa., December 13, 2017 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson are proud to announce the launch of Cancer.com, an online destination providing those impacted by cancer with useful information and tools at the right time. It features content tailored to each visitor by cancer type, topics of interest, and where they are in their care journey. Cancer.com also offers support tools to help visitors build skills to navigate life with cancer. It was created by Janssen Oncology in collaboration with leading patient advocacy organizations: the American Cancer Society, CancerCare, and Cancer Support Community.
“We understand that hearing the word ‘cancer’ is overwhelming, and the search that follows for relevant support can be daunting. This is what inspired Cancer.com,” said Tom Cavanaugh, President, Janssen Biotech, Inc., Oncology. “As part of our enduring commitment to the cancer community and to working toward victories over cancer, we are excited to debut Cancer.com to educate and empower patients and their caregivers.”
Customized Content
Cancer.com provides content tailored to when people are likely to need it most: at diagnosis, while making treatment decisions, during treatment, remission, and the potential of facing recurrence. Cancer types currently featured on Cancer.com include breast cancer, lung cancer, multiple myeloma, prostate cancer, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The site also provides a wide range of relevant insights across all tumor types.
Topic areas pinpoint what people impacted by cancer search for the most, including insurance and financial support, tips for effectively engaging with a healthcare team, and how to find local support ranging from clinical trial information to travel services.
Suite of Support Tools
Cancer.com offers unique resources, including My Care Activator, an exclusive digital health coaching tool developed by Johnson & Johnson behavior scientists that aims to pave a path toward better health outcomes. My Care Activator is customizable to visitors’ specific needs and prioritizes behaviors that can be changed to help them build or strengthen important skills, such as coping with symptoms, working with a care team, asking for support, and getting appropriate exercise and better sleep.
Another tool, Advocacy Connector, identifies additional resources and support groups based on people’s location, cancer type, and specific needs.
Designed for the Community, With Support from the Community
Janssen Oncology collaborated closely with three leading patient advocacy organizations – the American Cancer Society, CancerCare, and Cancer Support Community – each contributing to the deep content featured throughout Cancer.com. Cancer.com is also a gateway to other resources housed on these organizations’ websites.
American Cancer Society: Chuck Westbrook, Senior Vice President, Cancer Control Programs and Services
“As a trusted resource for cancer information, the American Cancer Society is pleased to contribute its expertise and content to ensure people affected by cancer receive the most up-to-date information to make informed decisions about their health. The American Cancer Society is committed to attacking cancer from every angle. With the support of our partners, we can empower people with the information they need to navigate their cancer experience.”
CancerCare: Patricia J. Goldsmith, Chief Executive Officer
“CancerCare has a broad and deep appreciation for how patients and families live with and beyond a cancer diagnosis. The customized and supportive approach of Cancer.com will assist many patients in understanding their diagnosis and their experiences throughout the continuum of care, as well as help them cope with the isolation and emotional challenges they will face.”
Cancer Support Community: Hildy Dillon, MPH, Vice President, Education and Support Programs
“The Cancer Support Community has been documenting the cancer patient and caregiver experience for 35 years. Janssen approached us and our advocacy partners when Cancer.com was in the beginning stages of development. As a result, this new resource will include information and links to the services of each partner. We are proud to be part of Janssen’s collaborative effort that brings so many benefits to the patient.”
