Take a mini virtual tour of the fifth JLABS facility to open in the U.S. in Texas.
As the saying goes, everything’s bigger in Texas—including Johnson & Johnson Innovation LLC’s newest offshoot, JLABS @ TMC, which opens its doors this week at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.
The 34,000-square-foot life sciences incubator—the fifth JLABS facility to debut in the U.S.—will provide up to 50 up-and-coming startups innovating in the heathcare space with everything from private offices to modular laboratory suites decked out with state-of-the-art equipment.
“JLABS @ TMC enhances our already robust ecosystem of talented entrepreneurs who are solving the greatest unmet healthcare needs of our generation,” said Robert C. Robbins, M.D., president and CEO of the Texas Medical Center. “TMC has spent decades making healthcare history, and now these [startups] housed at TMC will take innovation to new heights.”
So what is it like to actually work inside such an innovative space? Take our mini virtual tour.
The prototype lab
JLABS @ TMC is the first JLABS facility to house a medical device prototype lab, featuring lab equipment, electronic testing and assembly process equipment, and such specialized software as 3D printers to better help entrepreneurs design and develop smart technologies
Tissue culture and private cell culture facilities
These spaces feature a bevy of state-of-the-art equipment, including cell culture incubators, cold storage and oxygen control units catered to stem cell work
The Concept Lab
This open environment lab is designed to grow with entrepreneurs who are starting out small, offering everything from environmental health and safety services to chemical inventory capabilities and even shipping and receiving assistance.
Open work spaces
In a nod to the open, collaborative nature that startup culture is known for, JLABS @ TMC’s open work spaces provide employees with resources like high speed Internet-equipped open cubicles and individual phone booths.
